Tate Dean is a Rhode Island based tattoo artist. He’s 36 years old and has been tattooing since he was 18.
Tate was born in New York to a an artist mother and a plant-scientist father. From their home base in South County, Tate’s family spent his youth exploring the great outdoors that America has to offer.
As a five year old he presented his mother with a stone arrowhead he had found on the beach. From there he never stopped looking and observing the world around him for its wonders. A few short years later Tate was entering his first art shows.
While pursuing his super nerdy general interests, Tate became obsessed with movies, literature, nature and basically everything else in the encyclopedia. He pursued art more seriously in high school and college and nailed every art-history exam, once even dictating a paper over the phone for a friend who needed an A.
After he tattooed himself under the guidance of a slightly more experienced youth, he was hooked and decided the only practical way to be an artist in his mind, was to surround himself with people who needed art permanently stuck to their skin.
His apprenticeship under the guidance of Joe Romeiro, Collin Kasyan and Mike Boissoneault at Black Lotus, gave him the skills he would develop into a holistic approach to tattooing where the customer guides the process and true masterpieces are produced.
For the last 18 years Tate has been a licensed tattoo artist in the Rhode Island and southern-Massachusetts area.
Currently residing on the shore in Warwick; Tate lives with his partner, 2 children and many many pets.
